Arraignment: The first court appearance. The judge advises the defendant of his/her rights at this court appearance. the defendant's plea for traffic infractions and minor violations is entered at this time.

Assessments: Additional fees that are imposed by the judge. These are fees that are ordered by law and collected by the City of Pilot Rock, Umatilla County and the State of Oregon.

Bail: The amount of money set by the court to make sure a person appears in court. The police officer writes the amount of bail on the ticket.

Fine: The amount of money ordered by the judge to be paid when a person pleads guilty or is found guilty by trial.

Guilty by Default: A guilty finding imposed by the court if the defendant fails to appear.

Plea: The defendant's response to the charge. Three pleas are allowed in municipal court: guilty, not-guilty and no-contest.
